Establishing Shots by Daniel Kötter documents the complex sino-african relations in 58 short videos organised in five chapters. The videos were shot on several research trips in PR China, Hong Kong, Tansania, Zambia, DR Congo, South Africa, Nigeria, Mozambique, Algeria and Ethiopia between 2014 and 2017.

Four narratives introduce the idea of Chinafrika: Yü Güng moves mountains localizes the Chinese policy of free-trade-areas and large construction projects in Africa, the expansion of logistics and infrastructures are documented in Trains and Transport. Trades, Malls and Factories explores the places shaped by a new global bottom-up trade between Africa and the Pearl-River-Delta, Every Day Beliefs looks at the cultural overlap of sino-african everyday life, traditions and religion.
